Joyful Goodbyes - Post One

15th December: Location - City, Cinema, Zoom, Area 58, Korea!

Here it is, the first of the long awaited blogs from yours truly. Yeah, I've been in a whirlwind of life and holidays and resumes and Christmas, but I'd like to take the time to tell you a little story which isn't typically funny, but gives you a fix of sickly sweet cute romanticness.

It's about Eric and Gemma's last date! Ooh, that sounds bad doesn't it, Haha, No I just mean the last date before he got on a big jet plane and ran away to Korea. Oh boy, don't you know - you can run, but you can't hide. Creepy, I know.

Okay, take yourself back to the 12th of December, a Sunday midday outside the trusty Ezyway. We had tickets to see Harry Potter at 3pm, so to fill in time, we played one of my favourite games;

Window Shopping - 'Which one would you pick?'

It's pretty enjoyable, I like how relaxing and chilled it is, just meandering around every single shop and laughing at ridiculous items and ooh-ing over pretty ones. We window shop everywhere, from weddings rings (don't go getting any ideas will you now?) to ToyWorld where I decided I wanted the werewolf mask for Halloween and Eric wanted the remote control helicopter. Woah, we are atypical.

However, my favourite window shop moment, was when we perused a typical game shop, the ones full of lateral thinking puzzles and impossibly tangled metal loops, you have to shake to get apart. They had a big display of Chess boards with matching pieces, and we both simultaneously pointed at the Chess set with Shot Glass pieces. It would be wild, just imagine:

"CHECKMATE - BAHAHAH" " Oh no, I lost so I have to shot the rest of my pieces!"

No? Maybe you'll understand when you're older.

Eric wanted some pictures of us, to take to Korea before he left, but I'd been hiding and dragging my heels everytime he walked near the Area 58 super typical asian bright light photo booth. I mean, really? Do we have tooo? However, his sheer will (cough sheer strength) is greater than mine, so I semi-reluctantly went in.

Woah, I had a blast. Inbetween being absolute noobs at trying to read the non-english instructions, and rapidly striking a pose for a photo you didn't even realise was counting down to take, we laughed lots. I admit, the majority of the photos failed, with awkward forced smiles on my behalf and Eric being too tall to fit in the frame of the shot. But, because it was so much fun and the pictures turned out really cute, we did it again! Look for yourself and laugh (cringe) at the cheesyness of our affections, but I think they are damn fine mementos even if they are oldschool.

He's crying because he thinks I'm obese. Can you feel the love?

I really love being able to be a total fool and laugh at each other. Sometimes these small moments mean the most to me, more than huge planned dinners or dates.

After the foolery, we walked along and suddenly it was as if the heavens had opened and the glory of His kingdom befell us. A great beaming golden light spilled over the Queen St Mall floor and just like an ugly bug, I was drawn to it. (What you trying to say punk?) BreadTop. Nice! A sweet little serve yourself pastry shop filled with both savoury and sweet delights. Do try it sometime. So we chowed down on an interesting and pretty satisfying lunch and then hobbled our way up to the cinemas.

The movie was good, I have to admit I got scared and covered my eyes with my hands whenever the suspence music played and Harry stupidly snuck around blind corners or opened a musty attic door in slow motion. Seriously, if you heard that music, would you still open that door!? At least I didn't jump in my seat when the snake attacked the screen, like Eric did. It's a good thing he won't read this, or he would come get me all the way from Korea - Kekeke.

So, it was time to go home and I literally had no money left, no go-card, no texting credit and mum wasn't picking up the home phone OR her mobile. If you know me, that's nothing new. Being poor and homeless, I resigned to a life on the streets working as an escort in Hooter-what?! Kidding kidding, Eric gave me some money (aww...) and awfully briefly, we hugged and said 'See you soon', as I looked backwards and walked onto the bus. Sitting in a seat on my own, I looked out the window and waved at Eric waiting in the hall. It would be a long time until I saw him again so this was a deep moment, butttt, the evil busdriver took off and left him behind in a cloud of exhaust. Bye Boy.

With not much better to do, I pretened to look busy while digging through my bag so that random men on the bus wouldn't approach me (supguy can strike at anytime - allways be prepared) but I suddenly noticed a large white envolepe still sealed, and in my bag. DAMNNIT, I had forgotten to give Eric his amazing handmade Christmas card which I'd been teasing him with all day, saying he couldn't open it until Christmas morning. I guess I'll have to webcam it.

Oh, the irony.

Melanie xx
