The bell rung as the clock struck 2:30pm and the Grade 12 Chemistry students chelated out of the classroom. “Good luck for the big game Jamie”, the fellow year 12’s cheer as Amy, Gemma and Hannah sprint to the locker room to get changed.
“Ouf, I think I ripped a seam!” Gemma hollers out of the toilet cubicle and the girls giggle.
“Careful there Gemma, I think I can see your six pack outline through the shirt”
Rolling her eyes, Gemma meets up with the team and peer support Mele and trek the long and dangerous journey to the El Salvador soccer club where little to their knowledge, they would make history.

“Anyone got food? I’m so hungry!” Gemma moaned whilst holding her hands to contain her growling belly in her awfully tiny shirt. “Gather in girls!” Mr P built the team spirits with positive comments and complex game tactics. The girls gritted their teeth and pushed out the brisk warm-up of jogging and butt flicks.

Jokes! It's representative of our twindom - my great holyness and her ashamedness :]
Ashamed of running beside somebody wearing a shirt so small as me.

Finally, the moment came and the whistle blew. Feeling slightly nervous and excited to play their last ever grand final and last ever school soccer game they ran on in graceful style.
The game begun with an eye opening goal from the opposition against us, however we fired back with three times the intensity. Amy placed a perfect cross and Alice pocketed it away with a jumping volley, truly superb even Mr P was jumping with joy. We kept it up and after numerous shots at goal, Amy placed one bottom left corner and just when it looked like the goalie had caught it, her fingers slipped and it rolled in leaving us all slack jawed and overjoyed. Halftime whistle blew and we jogged off feeling pretty excited with our slight advantage over the opposition. Mr P whispered some words of encouragement and we were back out on the field ready to give it 110% for another 25minutes..jpg)
Playing some fierce soccer, there was countless free kicks, off sides and handballs awarded as both teams we’re giving it all they had. This started to grate on one particular team member of the opposition and she finally snapped after our third goal and blatantly picked up the soccer ball and ran around the field holding whilst yelling random babble. It was certainly entertaining and bizarre and earnt her a red card send off. The opposition were fighting back with strength as well and we had to defend countless corners against us which were nail biting. One particular corner was the most epic of them all. The opposition kicked a beautiful curving ball and it soared over the heads of the initial defenders and as it slipped past the fingers of our goalie, Gemma had a life changing - out of body experience and knew this was her time to shine, headering the ball off the line and away from the goal. Saving a goal! What a way to finish her soccer career.

The full time whistle blew and the crowds (yes we had an amazing crowd which must be thanked, even teachers came!) roared with intense joy as our team cried and hi-fived all round. Hugs were exchanged and six hip-hip-hips given for the OLC splendid coach Mr P. 3 -1. A noteworthy achievement and excellent final note for the 2010 OLC soccer team and final year for year 12 players. It has been a really fun and memorable time – thank you.

It's not the skills that make the team - it's the expressions.
